Dr. Janine Beatrice Goza Borja: A Journey of Resilience, Excellence, and Service

Dr. Janine Beatrice Goza Borja exemplifies grit, excellence, and an unwavering commitment to service. A doctor of medicine degree holder from the Philippines, she graduated as valedictorian of her class, earning multiple academic honors. Yet, beyond her scholastic achievements, it is her extraordinary resilience—rebuilding her medical career from the ground up after immigrating to the United States—that defines her journey and leadership in medicine.

Arriving in the U.S. with no prior clinical experience within the American healthcare system and while navigating the responsibilities of young motherhood, Dr. Borja faced formidable challenges. Undeterred, she began anew as a medical scribe, embracing every opportunity to learn and grow. Her perseverance and dedication soon led her to match into a highly competitive Internal Medicine residency, where she emerged as a respected leader and ultimately served as Chief Resident—a role that underscored her commitment to excellence, collaboration, and patient-centered care.

Currently, Dr. Borja is a Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellow at Loma Linda University in California, where she continues to thrive in academic medicine. With future plans to specialize in Sleep Medicine, she remains deeply engaged in research and scholarly work. She has presented at leading national conferences, including CHEST, ACG, and SCCM, and has published in peer-reviewed medical journals, reinforcing her reputation as both a dedicated clinician and a thoughtful contributor to advancing medical knowledge.

Beyond the bedside, Dr. Borja is a passionate mentor and advocate for immigrant physicians and first-generation medical trainees. She serves in key leadership roles within residency and fellowship programs, contributing to wellness initiatives, program development, and trainee evaluation. Her commitment to service extends to caring for underserved populations, with clinical experience spanning rural hospitals and major academic medical centers across the United States.

Dr. Borja’s journey powerfully reflects the values nurtured during her education at Vlog International School and Colleges. Character guided her through uncertainty, Competence sustained her through years of rigorous training, and a steadfast Commitment to Achieve carried her through the dual demands of motherhood and medicine. In the intensive care unit, her leadership is defined by collaboration and empathy, while Creativity and Innovation drive her efforts to improve care for vulnerable communities.

An active member of esteemed professional organizations such as the American Medical Association and the American College of Physicians, Dr. Borja continues to pursue lifelong learning and meaningful service to the medical profession.

Dr. Janine Beatrice Goza Borja’s story is not only one of personal triumph, but also a reflection of the community that shaped her foundation. Through every patient she serves, every research endeavor she advances, and every future physician she mentors, she embodies the ideals of excellence, service, and leadership—proudly representing the global impact of a Vlog education.
